As of September 6, 2018, we have evolved our servicing timeline for customers who need more time to test and deploy Windows 10 feature updates. Supported versions will be serviced via monthly quality updates.
Microsoft also unveiled a concept known as "Universal Windows apps", in which a Windows Runtime app can be ported to Windows Phone 8.1 and Xbox One while sharing a common codebase. While it does not entirely unify Windows' app ecosystem with that of Windows Phone, it will allow developers to synchronize data between versions of their app on each platform, and bundle access to Windows, Windows Phone, and Xbox One versions of an app in a single purchase.[43][44][45][46]Microsoft originally announced that users who did not install the update would not receive any other updates after May 13, 2014.[47] However, meeting this deadline proved challenging: The ability to deploy Windows 8.1 Update through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) was disabled shortly after its release following the discovery of a bug which affects the ability to use WSUS as a whole in certain server configurations.[48] Microsoft later fixed the issue[49] but users continued to report that the update may fail to install.[47] Microsoft's attempt to fix the problem was ineffective, to the point that Microsoft pushed the support deadline further to June 30, 2014.[47][50] On 16 May, Microsoft released additional updates to fix a problem of BSOD in the update.[51]

If you use Movies & TV to access content that has been protected with Microsoft Digital Rights Management (DRM), it may automatically request media usage rights from an online rights server and download and install DRM updates in order to let you play the content. See the DRM information in the Silverlight section of this privacy statement for more information.
Microsoft Silverlight helps you to access and enjoy rich content on the Web. Silverlight enables websites and services to store data on your device. Other Silverlight features involve connecting to Microsoft to obtain updates, or to Microsoft or third-party servers to play protected digital content.
Silverlight updates. Silverlight will periodically check a Microsoft server for updates to provide you with the latest features and improvements. A small file containing information about the latest Silverlight version will be downloaded to your computer and compared to your currently installed version. If a newer version is available, it will be downloaded and installed on your computer. You can turn off or configure updates in the Silverlight Configuration tool.
DRM updates. In some cases, accessing DRM-protected content will require an update to Silverlight or to the DRM components on your device. When you attempt to play content that requires a DRM update, Silverlight will send a request to a Microsoft server containing basic data about your device, including information about the DRM components on your computer such as their revision and security levels, troubleshooting data, and a unique identifier for your device. The Microsoft server uses this identifier to return a unique DRM update for your device, which will then be installed by Silverlight. You can turn off or configure DRM component updates on the Playback tab in the Silverlight Configuration tool.

Same problem, Security Monthly Quality Rollups repeatedly fail to install since February 2018, and now May 2018 doesn't work either. All other updates install successfully. I am running Windows 7 Pro, 64bit, on a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge.
Just spent nearly my entire day trying to "clean up" the "Security quality roll up" failure. In my case, it has been failing since 1/1/2018. My failure has been 80004005. Downloaded & installed the "security only" update for Jan. through June. Jan. failed with the 80004005, but all others suceeded. I've also installed the most recent "cumulative security updates" for IE 11. July roll up still fails with 80004005. Move on to the various other manual things to "clean up" the problem. (sfc, windows update trouble shooter, clean boot,...) Now I've managed to change the error to a 80010108.
Update: I have created a new Forum post for the issue here: -US/50f1e466-79b6-4080-8a39-d30168c9348c/repeated-update-failure-for-kb4338818-security-monthly-quality-rollup-for-windows-server-2008-r2-for?forum=win10itprosecurity
In one of the previous articles we have described the installation of a WSUS server on Windows Server 2012 R2 / 2016 in details. After you have configured the update server, you need to configure Windows clients (server and workstations) in order to use the WSUS server to receive updates. Thus, all Windows clients on your network should receive updates from the internal update server, and not from Microsoft Update servers via the Internet. In this article, we will take a look on how to configure clients to use a WSUS server using Active Directory domain group policies (GPO). (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle []).push();
We assume that in contrast to the server policy, updates to the client workstations are installed automatically at night immediately after receiving the updates. Computers should restart automatically after the installation of updates (notifying the user in 5 minutes).
In particularly difficult cases, you can try to fix the wuauserv service as follows. If an error 0x80244010 occurs when receiving updates on clients, try changing the frequency of checking for updates on the WSUS server using the Automatic Update detection frequency policy to 3-4 hours.
i am trying your solution, but when i run the powershell command: get-windowsupdatelog.the clients are getting the correct target group. but the servers goes to the unassigned computers group.how come?
Windows 10 April 2018 Update (also known as version 1803 and codenamed "Redstone 4", build 10.0.17134) is the fifth major update to Windows 10 and the fourth in a series of updates under the Redstone codenames. The first preview was released to Insiders on August 31, 2017. The final release was made available to Windows Insiders on April 16, 2018, followed by a public release on April 30, and began to roll out on May 8.
Windows 10 October 2018 Update (also known as version 1809 and codenamed "Redstone 5", build 10.0.17763) is the sixth major update to Windows 10 and the fifth in a series of updates under the Redstone codenames. The first preview was released to Insiders on February 14, 2018. The update was originally made available to public consumers on October 2, 2018, but its rollout was halted on October 6, 2018, due to a serious bug that deletes users' personal files after updating. On October 9, 2018, Microsoft re-released the update to Insiders, stating that all known issues in the update (including file deletion bug) had been identified and fixed. On October 25, 2018, Microsoft confirmed the existence of another bug that overwrites files without any confirmation, when extracting from a ZIP file. The ZIP bug was fixed for Insiders on October 30, 2018, and the public rollout of the update resumed on November 13, 2018. 2ff7e9595c
